It must be said that before I watched this movie, I showed heavy skepticism to a movie of this kind. However, after watching this year's Oscar Winning film in multiple categories including "Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role" and "Best Motion Picture of the Year" among others, I was relieved to find that the film deserved each bit of its credibility. Colin Firth's ability to portray King George the 6th by mastering the art of a forced stammer with the strength of a King is absolutely unreal. The story line takes place at a time in history when the world was troubled by the demonic actions of Hitler and was initiating the unified movement to halt his power. As the story unfolds in front of you, the dialogue is is not as serious as one would expect. Typically the tone that is perceived from an Oscar winning film is one that is constantly serious, but that is far from the case in this movie. As serious as the time frame of when this movie takes place is, the humor in the film relieves you from thinking of the stresses that are potentially available. I think the only pitfall of this movie is that it is rated "R". Now, the reasons for it being rated "R" are simply because a few scenes where the "F" word is said multiple times. Overall, its about 1 min of covering ears and this movie is simply enjoyable to any and all family members. I'd rate this movie a 9/10.
Director Tony Scott takes you for a hell of a ride in this movie. Most people would agree when I say that this movie is the definition of an Action Film. However, what a lot of people fail to notice is how deep and intricate the story line to this movie is. If you think you already know the plot of this movie, chances are you're probably wrong. Denzel Washington (Creasy) plays bodyguard to Dakota Fanning (Pita) and her family in the movie. The setting of the movie is in Latin America and filmed in Mexico, so of course the dangers that are present when living in corrupt territory are the base for the film. This movie, like Training Day, is a great representation as to why Denzel is an award winner. His cool, calm, stern attitude are daunting and dangerous. If you are looking for a movie to watch that provides a thrill, frustration, danger, compassion, and inspiration even this is the movie to go with. I rate this movie an 8.0/10.
This is one of Jesse Eisenberg's earlier movies. Most of you know him as Mark Zuckerberg from "The Social Network". This movie is based on the life of a kid and his fears from high school to college. I think the movie was very relate-able, and if you're interested to see the other work done by Jesse Eisenberg, this would be the movie to watch. You feel tense throughout the movie knowing what impending dangers might approach. I wouldn't say the film is great, but its definitely good to watch. I think the one thing that has bothered me with Jesse Eisenberg is that he doesn't seem different in any of his movies. However, he's still a good actor and I can't discredit his performance in this movie. You'll enjoy watching this movie if you've ever felt like you've been screwed out of something. Overall I give the movie a 7.0/10. This is a classic Pixar film. I think I've seen this movie somewhere between 5 - 10 times, and each time I enjoy it just as much as the first. By far my favorite Pixar film, mind you this is a bold statement with movies like Monster's Inc, Wall-E, Finding Nemo, and the Toy Story series to name a few. This movie literally draws you in to the plot within the first 5 minutes. The beauty of this movies is that it is meant for all age groups, because just about anybody you know can relate. If you have ever had a childhood dream that hasn't been fulfilled, you really will love this movie. It's a feel good movie that even if you bought it, you would not regret the purchase. To tell you more than in the movie there is a flying house, an elderly/senile man, and a young kid as the main characters, would spoil good bits of the movie. All in all I'd rate this movie about an 8.3/10. This 2007 film was something I discovered when searching for other movies. I looked it up on my own and found out that the movie was based on oil. How could I go wrong right? Well I won't take the exact opposite route and say I went wrong, but I definitely was not ready for a slow paced film. The film which started on a slow note, takes a very dark turn. The mix of the oil business, family, and religion is the center piece for this movie. If anything, the religion piece is humorous and dark. Overall, the title doesn't grant you the expectations of a Tarentino film, but you definitely get the violence and gore you want. It just appears when necessary. Truthfully, the main character played by Daniel Day-Lewis is pretty sinister but you don't see it until later into the movie. I give the movie a 8.0/10.
Its rare that people go back and enjoy a good psychological thriller, with all the new ways that you can depict movies and use cinematography tricks. In the case of this movie, its the fact that there isn't much of that, that actually makes the movie good. Denzel Washington of course plays his classic cop role, which he nails well. However, what you are expecting is definitely not the original plot of this movie. The movie could be borderline considered a horror film. Its definitely a good watch and its a nice surprise to have John Goodman and James Gandolfini. Pretty good movie overall also give it a 7.0/10.
How this movie went under the radar, I just can't seem to figure out. Andy Garcia does a killer job in the movie and its a downright hell of a comedy. Not you're typical ridiculous humor that is out these days but the movie is situationally hilarious. I feel like its a good film to watch just about anytime. If you need a good feel good funny movie, this movie will do the trick. The humor is definitely surprising and I didn't expect to laugh out loud nearly as much as I did. You get a good representation of lies, deceit and internal family drama. All in all makes for a good movie and you definitely will not be disappointed with this movie. I give it 7.5/10.
This movie is absolutely hilarious. Now if you weren't a huge fan of "The Hangover" or movies that involve stupid/ridiculous humor then this movie may not be for you. However, the turn of events in this movie and Robert Downey Jr.'s handling of Zach Galafianakis's ridiculous antics is awesome. The good part about the movie is that it isn't all just ridiculous, there is also a plot which adds to some of the humor of the movie, but creates the serious atmosphere that most people yearn for in a movie. You won't go wrong watching this movie and definitely can be watched more than once. Definitely a movie to watch with company as well. I say watch it more than once because you will be chuckling so hard at one joke you may miss another right after. Overall, I give this movie an 7.0/10.
Where do I begin, I started watching this movie with high hopes but like everyone knows that's usually a terrible idea. Now, the movie isn't terrible and I wasn't unsatisfied with the plot and the acting, I just didn't find it to be the strong movie I was expecting. I think Dustin Hoffman does a wonderful acting job in the movie and quite frankly makes the movie. There are definitely better by Tom Cruise. The plot was not the thriller I was expecting. Overall, not a great movie, maybe a good one time watch just to see the humor and Dustin Hoffman's acting. I rank it 6.0/10.
Josh Radnor's most recent film is a short but very enjoyable film. Most of you may know him as Ted Mosby from How I Met Your Mother. Its a good audience pleaser and contains all the basic elements of a good date type movie. You have your romance, your conflicting problems in terms of story lines, and you have your unavoidable humor. The movie is written, directed and acted in by Josh Radnor, but there are some other surprise cast roles in the movie. Having won Sundance's Audience Award this past year, you can imagine that you will not be disappointed. No thrills, no rushes, but some emotional highs and lows, all around a good film. I give it a 7.5
